Student Biographies
Chloe-Symone Alvarado
Chloe-Symone Alvarado (she/they) is currently in her final year of the joint MPP/MBA program at Mills College. She received her undergraduate degrees of Counseling & Human Services and Women & Gender Studies in May of 2018 from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. Her focus thus far in her academic career has included LGBTQ+ rights, anti-sex trafficking and pro-sex work legislation, and policy regarding reducing harm and rates of homelessness in marginalized communities. Additionally, she is currently studying for the California CPA examinations while completing her degree and working as a graduate assistant at Mills College.

Paige Chamblin
Paige Chamblin (she/her) is a third-year in the joint MPP/ MBA program. She graduated from Sweet Briar

College in 2018 majoring in Chemistry with minors in Engineering and Education. In 2017, Paige took an internship with the State Department in the Chief Information Office where she created a national engineering contest to have a better Wi-Fi connectivity structure in refugee camps around the world, starting with the Zaatari Refugee Camp (79,000 people) in Jordan. This experience gave her the opportunity to evaluate herself and future aspirations, which led her to the joint MPP/ MBA program at Mills College. At Mills, she has discovered her love of labor economics and labor policies. Specifically, she is interested in child and elderly care. Paige is open to any-and-all career advice and insights

Alhelí Cuenca
Alhelí Cuenca was born and raised in Fresno, CA and in 2014 she completed a B.A in Political, Legal, & Economic Analysis with an emphasis in Legal Studies and a minor in Sociology from Mills College. Alhelí’s interdisciplinary coursework led her to The Greenlining Institute where she explored narrative change as a youth development strategy to address barriers to health access. She leads with the belief that when young people are invested in, given a platform to voice their lived experiences and the power to vote within decision-making bodies - our communities will become more equitable for all.

Alec Edges

Alec Edges is a Graduate Student Assistant and Joint MPP/MBA student at Mills College Lokey School of Business and Public Policy. She is a skilled researcher in qualitative methods, African American historical locations and preservation policy, and emerging underrepresented business manufacturers, focusing on transportation and housing equity in the Bay Area. In her free time, Alec likes to spend time in the outdoors, cycling, hiking and swimming with her friends and family. And she loves to spend time reading books and putting together puzzles.

Alexis Lozano

Alexis is a Southern California native in her second year of the MBA/MPP program at Mills College. She previously attended U.C. Davis where she received her B.A. in Political Science-Public Service. She is passionate about increasing opportunities for individuals to prosper and for communities to thrive. Currently, she works as a Data and Performance Analyst at EveryOne Home, a non-profit dedicated to homeless policy solutions in Alameda County. In her free time, she enjoys rooting for the Oakland A’s, thrifting, and trying new vegan recipes.

Patricia Martinez

Patricia Martinez received her Bachelor of Science in Community & Justice Studies from Guilford College, in Greensboro North Carolina. Patricia is currently seeking a master’s at Mills College in the MPP/MBA program. She currently manages the Make It Right Program in San Francisco, a Restorative Justice diversion program for juveniles and transitional age youth. Patricia is committed to restoring families affected by mass incarceration and gun violence having been personally affected in her life. Her core values of courage, transparency, and equality are rooted in her social justice education and collaboration with community partnerships.

Mimi Olson
Mimi worked in water filtration and purification for eight years before pursuing the Mills MPP/MBA joint degree. She’s looking to help those in positions of power in politics or business to make sound scientific decisions for the benefit of all. She’s particularly interested in climate change, water distribution systems, and exploring ways to incorporate equity into established systems. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley, and is an avid ultimate frisbee player and enthusiastic novice ice skater.

Bukky Olugbemi

Bukky Olugbemi (pronounced “book-key”) is a Nigerian American, in her third year of the MPP/MBA program. She is also a staff member here at Mills College within the Division of Student Life specifically the Residential Life Department since October 2017. After her first year at Mills as a staff member, she decided to get her MBA degree. The decision to get the joint MBA/MPP was based on her background and interest in the intersection of politics and business as she would still be able to interact with her favorite parts of law through the MPP.

Mika Kie Weissbuch

Mika Kie Weissbuch (she/her) is a third year joint MBA/MPP student and directs the student team as part of the Center for Transformative Action. In 2011, she founded a community center, Huellas de Paz, which focuses on education, the arts, health and wellness, and youth leadership in Managua, Nicaragua. In response to COVID-19, Mika organized a coalition, Protección Pinolera de Emergencia (PPE), which equips frontline workers and vulnerable communities across Nicaragua with PPE. Mika earned her undergraduate degree in Politics and Critical Social Thought from Mount Holyoke College.
